Hail.
Also, 1080p? Peasant resolution. 1440p or higher!

lol. As far as PC vs Console the past month I played Divinity Original Sin, Crusader Kings 2, Europa Universalis 4, Shadowrun Returns and it's expansion, and Distant Worlds Universe. All "best all time" level games. None of them on console. With Star Citizen, Torment, Pillars of Eternity, Civ Beyond Earth, Galciv 3, and Hearts of Iron 4 coming out I haven't touched a console and won't be anytime soon. Been playing Heroes of the Storm and DOTA 2 as well on the regular.
Consoles to me are for funzies games. Nothing too serious mediocre stuff. Like Destiny or Madden. Shooters are about a decade behind in content vs other genres now. Meanwhile RTS and MOBA all have league play, good matchmaking, and great interfaces built in shooters are still all just random match garbage with no competitive game mode. Action games like Assassins Creed I have ZERO interest in, no innovation there either. JRPGs have been really bad lately too IMO. It's funny because I used to be obsessed with games like those.

IT IS 2014. IF I SEE ANOTHER PERSON WHO BUYS A LAPTOP WITH 1366X768 RESOLUTION I WILL GO ON A RAMPAGE

That resolution is garbage and should never have come to be. Seriously. Laptops before then used to come with 1400x900 screens, and then all the panel manufacturers decided consolidating to TV sizes and resolutions was cool.
Ugh. Seriously. 1366 x 768 is a huge pet peeve of mine. Such garbage has ruined so many otherwise good laptops.

It fills me with rage. We should go on a manhunt for the manufacturers who think it's still okay to fit new machines with such an unholy resolution.

Still running I7 920, just upgraded video card, run all games on max settings. PC builds last forever now. Built this thing like 5 years ago

Got a hit-list ready. Top offenders are Lenovo, Toshiba, and HP/Dell tied for third.
Toshiba deserves to die just for making the world's chintziest laptops.

Hmm. PS3 had free multiplayer, and GT5 could do 1080P and multi monitor. PS3 & PS4 have tons of indies, and lots of PS4 games run at 60 fps in 1080P.
That being said, the next three games I'm buying, I'm getting on PC.

HALF LIFE 3 CONFIRMED?!

Toshitba needs to stop making laptops altogether.
HP and Lenovo are guilty of selling high end laptops (business machines) with that res.
But then there's Apple... who charges $1,100 for a new non-Retina MacBook Pro... with 1280x800 resolution. LOL
![]() 10/01/2014 at 23:05 |
|
Apple at least had the balls to make laptops with much, much higher resolutions than what the competition was offering and, in so doing, spurred that competition to follow suit. So they get a pass.

My HP is 1920/1080. And yes games look glorious on it.

You can always mod a computer to be able to play modern games. Not so with a console.

Looking forward to GTAV on PC in Jan.

I'm not a huge GTA fan and will play that but that is another point, that all the really good games on console either are on PC at release or come out soon after.

You are not gonna like the resolution on my new laptop then....

I have an HP with FHD as well BRO FIST
Which model BTW? and specs
![]() 10/01/2014 at 23:12 |
|
Eh, if you play around with a Retina MBP you'll learn pretty quickly that giant resolutions on smaller screens don't work very well cause you have to jack up the DPI and by that point it's nearly identical (or worse even) in terms of real estate than FHD

RETURN IT

Envy 17T or something like that. No touchscreen cause screw that. I7 4800MQ chip, Nvidia 740GTM card w/2GB GDDR5, 16GB GDDR3 RAM and 1TB Hybrid drive, 17" screen, Windows 8 Pro, Upgraded wireless forget what exactly but its better, and backlit keyboard because why the fuck not. Wasn't cheap but it kicks ass for school work and games.
![]() 10/01/2014 at 23:26 |

Yeah I have the same machine except 15" and i7-4700MQ and a 512GB Crucial MX100 SSD.
^5
![]() 10/01/2014 at 23:33 |

Not bad at all. I thought about the 15" like that one, but no disc drive. And this one has BluRay. I thought about getting the extra internal SSD but the bill was climbing high enough as it was.
![]() 10/01/2014 at 23:33 |
|
Eh, I can read it just fine. The real killer is that the hardware can't push anything demanding at native res.
But then again, I use the giant resolution for worky things, like programming. and browsing Oppo.
![]() 10/01/2014 at 23:36 |
|
I tried programming and Photoshop, video editing... everything was too damn small. Regardless of OS X or Windows.
![]() 10/01/2014 at 23:37 |

Buy the SSD on your own. Mine was $210 for *512*GB
![]() 10/01/2014 at 23:37 |
|
But its an HP....
![]() 10/01/2014 at 23:41 |
|
Good idea. Maybe as the machine ages a bit, because the way it is now everything boots extremely fast as it is.
![]() 10/01/2014 at 23:43 |

What I did is use that 1TB drive it came with and threw it in an external USB 3.0 enclosure. Installing Windows 7 on an SSD via USB 3.0 = 5 minutes. It was amazing.
![]() 10/01/2014 at 23:44 |

Damn that's awesome
![]() 10/01/2014 at 23:46 |

I'm calling $250 Chromebook exception.
![]() 10/01/2014 at 23:46 |
|
Once you go SSD, you'll never want to use a hard drive for your OS ever again.
![]() 10/01/2014 at 23:50 |
|
If it's something under $500 I don't expect it to have a decent resolution. In fact; I just expect it to be crap.
That being said, Chromebooks seem like toys to me. They're meant for high school students and people who just surf and email. Anyone who does anything else; they're cumbersome (I know you can install Linux on them, but hardware wise they are quite low end).
![]() 10/01/2014 at 23:50 |

I believe it.

Its a tablet with a keyboard. I use mine to take notes in class, put raw data into Google spreadsheets, watch Netflix and Youtube, oppo, FB, all that jazz. And it gets pretty epic battery life and is super portable. If you need mobile processing, they're terrible, but if you need a way to get keystrokes online or view internet data, they're unbeatable at that price.
